UPSC IAS 2015 Eligibility Criteria

Indian Administrative Services is one of the premier services of the country. The applicants appointed as IAS Officers holds a very key position. The exam for selecting applicants as IAS officers is conducted every year and only eligible applicants are allowed to appear in the exam. Nationality

To apply in the exam the following conditions regarding the nationality of the applicants must be fulfilled:

  • To apply in Indian Administrative Services and Indian Police Services applicants must be an Indian;
  • For any other services they can be:
1. a citizen of India;
2. a subject of Nepal;
3. a subject of Bhutan.

Age Limitation


There are certain conditions as far as age of applicants is considered. Read the points below to get the details:

  • Applicants those who want to appear in the exam must lie on the age group of 21 years to 30 years as on 1 August 2015. Hence the applicants with age less than 21 years or more than 30 years will not be allowed to appear in exam.
  • Through relaxation in age will be applicable as per the rules.

Number Of Attempts

As per the guidelines of IAS 2015 Eligibility Criteria the applicants of general category can appear for the maximum of 4 times. OBC applicants can appear seven times for the exam and applicants of SC/ST category can attempt the exam till their age is 35 years.

Educational Qualification Required

The points given below will highlight the IAS 2015 Eligibility Criteria in terms of educational qualifications. 

  • Applicants should have possessed bachelors qualification in any discipline from a recognized university.
  • Applicants who are in their final year of qualifying exam can  also appear for the exam provided that they must be able to produce the required certificates at the time when they are required.
